• Accept the offer.
• Move the offered course to the bottom of your preference list (or remove it altogether).
• Make sure you have your preferred course at the top of your preference list.

If you get an offer to your preferred course in the next offer round, you can:

• accept the new offer
• withdraw your acceptance of the first offer (this will free up your place in the course for someone else).

Changing your preferences after you receive an offer

Note that not all institutions make offers in every round: check institutions participating in each offer round.

Check with the relevant institutions about your selected courses.

• Reassess your preferences. Check the list of January Round 1 lowest selection ranks. Make sure you include a course that has a lowest selection rank that matches (or is less than) your ATAR. Check with the institutions that there are still vacancies for your preferred courses.
• Consider including a diploma course in your preference list. They usually require a lower selection rank than bachelor degrees in the same subject area and, if you do well in your first year, you can often transfer to the second year of the related bachelor degree.
• Lock in your preferences for March Round 1 offers by 11.59pm on Thursday 27 February.
• In your application, make sure you have selected 'Yes' to the question asking you if you'd like to receive information about alternative study options. This will allow institutions to contact you about other courses.
